One of our team members, “Ana,” had the opportunity to be the delegate of His power in one Hindu young woman’s life recently. It resulted in a first encounter with Jesus and His life-changing message for this woman.

“Raya,” a university student, grew up in a Hindu family just like the majority of her classmates who come from the surrounding towns and villages. She had been brought to the temple by her parents as an infant to be dedicated to the gods, and she has spent her life performing daily rituals and offerings to these gods. She had never heard of Jesus until the following events.

One of our creative-access platforms held an event at Raya’s campus which enabled our team to interact with students just like her who have never heard of Jesus or even met a follower of Christ. On the last day of the event she was talking to Ana, who noticed Raya’s hand was trembling. Ana asked Raya about her hand and why it was trembling. Raya explained that it was from when she had typhus as a young girl.

Impressed by the Holy Spirit, Ana pulled Raya aside and asked if she could pray over Raya’s hand in Jesus’ name. Ana explained that Jesus has the power to heal and that she would be willing to pray for her if that was ok. Raya agreed, and as Ana began to pray, Raya said she felt the trembling in her hand leaving to the point that it was only at the tips of her fingers now. Ana told Raya that it was Jesus who was healing her. Ana had to leave immediately after this exchange with Raya, but she felt confident that the Lord Jesus was going to completely heal her hand.

That same night Ana and Ellen, a fellow team member, met up with Raya to talk about Jesus who healed her. Ana and Ellen were able to share the Gospel. How Jesus is God and how she could follow Him and Him alone.

During the conversation with Raya two miraculous things in particular stood out and testify to Jesus’ love and mercy in her life. Firstly, after 15 years of experiencing trembling in her hand, it was completely gone after Ana had prayed for it in the name of Jesus. Secondly, Raya shared that two nights before she had a dream that Ana was going to pray for healing over her trembling hand. Raya said she had forgotten about the dream until the moment Ana first touched her hand to pray. It was in that moment the dream suddenly came back to her mind. Before leaving she thanked Ana and Ellen for introducing her to Jesus. She said she never knew anything about Him.

The decision to follow Jesus is something that is now weighing heavy on Raya’s heart. Please pray that she will follow Him alone even at the cost of losing everything—her family, her culture, her community.

My uncle had been following his traditional ancestors’ beliefs with a mix of Islam. He is a man who is not easily convinced by any religion.

It all began when he was sick. He had a severe fever and dreamt about men dressed in white visiting him in his room. One of them was clearly different from the others. He was glorious in appearance and carried a crown.

In his feverish stupor and confusion, my uncle called out to my younger brother who is a believer and lives next door to him. He frantically told my brother what he was seeing at that moment. My brother, sensing that this was no ordinary dream, told him about God’s love and offered to pray with him. Because of God’s mercy, my uncle (91 years old) recovered from his sickness and continued to express his interest in the love of God that my brother had spoken about earlier. With a joyful heart and concern for his spiritual well-being, my brother informed us of the breakthrough in my uncle’s demeanor. A few days later we visited him and explained the Gospel to him. Praise the Lord he made the decision to follow Jesus immediately.

He wanted to know more about Jesus and was eager to read the Bible even in his old age. He said, "I want to learn more, so I can share with any of my friends if they are seeking for answers and are also confused about their own beliefs." It was later revealed to us he had been interested in Christianity for some time and was waiting for someone to tell him about Jesus.

He's now faithfully attending a local church with my brother's help. Indeed, we're rejoicing with the Lord as another precious soul joined the Kingdom’s family.

Dreaming of Jesus?

We get asked all the time, “Are Muslims really having dreams about Jesus?” The short and simple answer is yes. It happens quite often in fact. It has become rather normative in places where the Gospel is spreading to see the Spirit use supernatural means to draw people to Christ. Among former Muslim leaders who have come to faith and are discipling others, at least 40% of them reported having a dream or vision of Jesus that led them to forsake their former beliefs and follow Him. 1

Impact Global Outreach has been able to see this firsthand as our team ministers to the unreached. These divine experiences can only be explained as the Spirit of God moving. There is a sense of faith and freedom in knowing that we are stepping into communities where God is already working. The following testimony is from an iGO team member and how God used the miraculous to show someone His power and love leading them to Jesus.

Aisha grew up in a religiously split home. Her mother was a Muslim, and her father was a Roman Catholic. When marriages in this region happen between people of different faiths, it is often forbidden for the Muslim to covert. Aisha held onto the faiths of both her mother and father, but she had a deep longing to know God.

At different times I, as well as other teammates, met with her and shared the Gospel, but she was not ready to receive Him. In Islam, dreams have significance, and for two years she asked God to reveal Himself to her in dreams.

After two years of knowing and praying for her, she wrote to me saying she needed to see me. As we talked, she told me how two nights ago she had a dream. Aisha revealed how in her dream, Jesus came to her and said, “Believe in me and be saved.” Then she asked me, “What do I do now? I want to believe.”

As she spoke those words to me, the Holy Spirit brought Acts 16:31 to my mind. I told her, “Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved.” I explained to her what it meant to believe in Jesus. This time, through tears, she prayed to trust Jesus as her Savior and Lord.
I'm amazed by how our Father worked in Aisha’s life.

We serve an all-powerful, all-knowing God. He knows the deepest cry of our hearts. Jesus answered the prayer of her heart that He might reveal Himself in her dreams. Through this supernatural experience, we were able to step in and lead her to faith in Him.

This is one of many stories of how God is powerfully at work in our world to bring those who do not know Him into a deep relationship with Him. We stay engaged in the work that He is doing and follow the Spirit’s leading in seeking those who are tender to His work in their lives.

1 Jerry Trousdale. These people are often referred to as unreached. For centuries, communities like this have been locked into false religions worshiping false gods with no light of the truth in their midst.

Our heart here at iGO is to break into these communities with the light of the Gospel, but this is not original to us. The idea of reaching the unreached and bringing those outsiders (Gentiles who worship false gods) into faith in the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob is something we get to witness in the story of Jesus’ ancestors.

Matthew, the disciple of Jesus, begins his book with the recording of the ancestral line of Joseph, the earthly father of Jesus. For those of us familiar with the Christmas story, it is easy to glaze over the names and fathers of fathers recorded in the Gospel of Matthew but details matter. The ancestral line of Jesus is no exception. If we pay careful attention to verse 5, there is something to be learned about the heart of God for the nations.

Matthew writes in verse 5, “Salmon the father of Boaz, whose mother was Rahab…” If that last name rings a bell, that is because she is the same Rahab in the book of Joshua who helped the spies that had entered the city of Jericho. The Israelites spare her life in return for the protection she gave them, and she turns from her Canaanite gods to worship Yahweh, the God of the Israelites. We are not told the entire story of Rahab, but here in Matthew we find out that she married an Israelite man named Salmon who was the father of Boaz.

The next phrase in verse 5 brings us to our second significant name, “Boaz the father of Obed, whose mother was Ruth…” Ruth, unlike Rahab, has an entire book of the Bible dedicated to her story, so we know much more about where she came from and what happened to her. She was a Canaanite from the land of Moab, which is modern-day Jordan. Ruth goes with her Israelite mother-in-law, Naomi, back to the land of Israel after both of their husbands die. This is the beginning of Ruth’s story where she eventually meets Boaz, an Israelite, who becomes her husband. They have children, and she becomes the great-grandmother of King David, as well as a member of the messianic line of Jesus.

Why does Matthew mention these two Gentile women in his recording of Jesus’ lineage? There are several reasons why, but the one that stands out with relation to missions is that they are a vivid reminder, written into the story of Jesus, that God loves all people. God’s heart on full display in the stories of Rahab and Ruth is that those who do not yet worship Him and have not yet heard about His love, mercy, and grace would come to know and experience Him. This is what was lost at the garden and which Jesus came to restore. This is the heart of God for the nations that we as believers are called to follow as we reach those who have never heard.

She was searching for what it means to truly love, and Jesus is a perfect example of love.”

Those who do not yet have communion with Jesus Christ have distorted views of love it plays out into every area of their life. Those who follow the teachings of Islam are no exception. The path for them is to earn favor with Allah by doing all that they can to follow the teachings of the Koran and practices of their prophet. Even if they faithfully follow all their lives, there is no guarantee that Allah will accept them.

As believers we have the privilege to step into their worldview and showcase God’s love in the Gospel for them. God’s love provides for us mercy and grace with justice being carried out through the death of His Son on all of our sin. This is the message that we carry within us as jars of clay. This is the truth that is renewing our lives and has the power to make all things new in our broken world.

The message of the Gospel is rooted in the character and very essence of God—love. May we urgently share the love of God found in the Gospel with a world in desperate need of His healing power and affection. Let’s pray for “Mia” to know and experience the love of Jesus for herself, and for every Muslim to hear about the true God—the God who is in his very essence is love.

Each morning I awake to text messages of new atrocities sent from people we have loved and served alongside over the years, today being no different. A Bible woman we have known for 20 years living in one of the most affected areas and who has cared for her mother and grandmother for such a longtime wrote today, “mom, grandma and I am also sick and I have to take care day and night feeding them and making things for them all the time.12 family members [in the house] and only 2 not sick. Only God can save us.”

Through these months, I have been driven to my knees in tears and prayer and to searching the scriptures. I have been looking for promises to encourage myself and others, for verses about the Lord fighting for us, winning the battle and so on. There are of course many to be found recounting victory and, though rehearsing them through reading really stiffens one’s resolve that God not only has the plan and purpose and we can trust, none seemed to be exactly speaking to this time and situation. And then, today, I read Psalm 27. And there He was, our great Lord, stirring my thoughts and directing me just how to pray for our brothers and sisters in Myanmar-that they would be filled with the Spirit and rest in the peace and sanctuary of the Lord even in the middle of the battle. That they would be protected from fear and doubt. That, even though some would be like Stephen as he beheld Heaven on his final day and some would be like Peter, rescued to serve on earth again, both would be perfected in His beauty and stirred to faith and confidence. To stand.

Psalm 27
A psalm of David.

1 The Lord is my light and my salvation—
so why should I be afraid?
The Lord is my fortress, protecting me from danger,
    so why should I tremble?
2 When evil people come to devour me,
when my enemies and foes attack me,
    they will stumble and fall.
3 Though a mighty army surrounds me,
my heart will not be afraid.
Even if I am attacked,
    I will remain confident.
4 The one thing I ask of the Lord—
    the thing I seek most—
is to live in the house of the Lord all the days of my life,
    delighting in the Lord’s perfections
    and meditating in his Temple.
5 For he will conceal me there when troubles come;
he will hide me in his sanctuary.
He will place me out of reach on a high rock.
6 Then I will hold my head high
above my enemies who surround me.
At his sanctuary I will offer sacrifices with shouts of joy,
singing and praising the Lord with music.
7 Hear me as I pray, O Lord.
    Be merciful and answer me!
8 My heart has heard you say, “Come and talk with me.”
And my heart responds, “Lord, I am coming.”
9 Do not turn your back on me.
Do not reject your servant in anger.
You have always been my helper.
Don’t leave me now; don’t abandon me,
    O God of my salvation!
10 Even if my father and mother abandon me,
the Lord will hold me close.
11 Teach me how to live, O Lord.
Lead me along the right path,
for my enemies are waiting for me.
12 Do not let me fall into their hands.
    For they accuse me of things I’ve never done;
with every breath they threaten me with violence.
13 Yet I am confident I will see the Lord’s goodness
while I am here in the land of the living.
14 Wait patiently for the Lord.
    Be brave and courageous.
Yes, wait patiently for the Lord.
(NLT)

LR

We need your unceasing prayer and help. At this moment people like us who are living in the capital cities are safe but we have to be very aware of our surrounding. Because every day there is an explosion of bomb and shooting in the city. We are to be very careful.

But now there are people who are suffering more than us and I want to give update about them. They are in great danger and in need of great help. I was born in Chin State, 97% of the Chin people are Christian or at least nominal Christian. It is the poorest state in the whole country. Now the military coup are oppressing them with guns. While every cities are suffering alike, Mindat and Matupi Township are the worst. They used big weapons like launchers, machine guns and aircraft. They burnt people’s house and even church building. They raped and murders girls and children. Bodies are found in the yard of houses, near the road and in the sink. So almost all the people in the town have to flee in the forest and take refuge. Two of our missionaries and their families are a victims of this. The worst thing is the military continue chasing them even in the forest. Our people have to run and move to different places. In fact now is raining season, it rain every day. I am thinking where will they stay? What will they eat?

As a Pastor shepherd of a small church, it breaks my heart so much. They brought with them a small portion of food but it’s been a month they are in the forest, the foods are not enough anymore. Many old people and children are suffering from fatigue and sicknesses. There are at least 40000 refugees in the forest from Mindat Township alone. They are in need of our prayer and support. There is a way to send them food and medicine. It is secret and I cannot mention. As we are preparing to help them, I want to invite you to be with us. I believe now is the most needful time to help the people. God bless Myanmar!!

Many of the people left the town and went out to the forest for safety. Since my father is sick, I am at home with my father. Pray for us, we are in danger.

Another Southern Chin town called Mindat has been bombed by military terrorists for the last four days. Almost all the people of the town left the town to the forest for safety. Only older people and sick are left in the town, even those people are also tortured severely. Missionary D* told me on the phone that over eighty thousand people are in the forest. They are without food, even the people who are left in the town, the terrorist cutoff the water pipeline for the town yesterday and the people are in trouble. The military used big weapons and jet fighters to fight and kill civilians.

Again in the Northern Chin State in Hakha town where our people Christians live, gun shooting, arresting, and fighting has been going on. Civilians are in trouble and in fear of going outside. Bomb explosion happened everywhere. Today a 10-year-old boy was killed by a bomb explosion in Tedim town.

Myanmar money (currency) is very rare now. Private banks are still not functioning. Myanmar Foreign Trade is controlled by the junta, and sending money from outside is strictly limited. Prices have gone up, gasoline price has gone up.
It is hard to say that now is better [but] In some places, it is better, in the sense of a mass killing event, but in many places, killing, shooting, arresting, torturing, robbing is going. Life is really in danger.

As we believe the sovereignty of God, there is peace only in the faith-rest life.

Thanks for praying for Myanmar.

Photo: A 10-year-old Chin child is running for his safety with his homemade gun to defend himself.
